Wayne McFarland

Director - Presented by John Mello

Wayne has participated in USSSA program for 30 years, 25 as player/coach/manager and 4 years as umpire. In addition to this, "Wayno" has served as USSSA Area Director from 1995 to 2004.

Wayne has enjoyed promoting USSSA softball throughout his career. He embraces running tournaments for a variety of reasons. He has had tournaments between towns to help increase visibility for USSSA softball. He has also run tournaments that raise funds for local families in need in addition to organizations such as the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation. Wayne also likes to attend other town league meetings to offer his expertise. Finally, when Wayne isn't on the field, or helping others, he is helping with the functions of the USSSA Hall of Fame.

During his participation in USSSA, Wayne states that he enjoyed traveling to play tournaments in other states and towns and making new friends who loved the game. Then, the team motto was "SOS"- Sick of Second (place). This was obvious when they won the Spencer, MA tournament with only 9 players-after he told the director that they would win before the first pitch was even thrown.

Wayne offers the following remarks:

"I would like to thank all the directors and umpires for their dedication to the game of softball. Also, I would like to thank these individuals for providing me direction and influence from the beginning of my career with USSSA softball: Dean McNew; John Hart; Roman Ferguson; Jim Jackson; John Pond; Paul Carchedi and many more umpires"
