Scott Anderson

Male Player - Presented by Billy Passay

Scott had played softball for 19 years, 15 of those years involved participat-ing in the USSSA program. Scott achieved a .550 career batting average over the years playing for CJ's (Palmer, MA); Anderson Builders (Palmer, MA); Rossetto Builder (CT) and Purdential/Anderson Builders (CT). Scott and his teammates compiled an impressive lifetime 859W-419L league record and a 74W-45L USSSA World tournament (including Divisional and World Series) record.

Although Scott has retired, it is abundantly clear that his passion for the game is still present.

"Softball is a great game to play. I gave up my senior year of High School baseball to play softball. I played for 19 years and had a great time. I'd still be playing today (retired in 1999) if it wasn't for family commitments. USSSA is the best organization in softball. In USSSA softball to qualify for the Nationals, you must win or come in second place Labor Day weekend. Unlike the other organizations where if you play in enough tourneys they give you a birth to the Nationals. Playing for 19 years I had fun getting to know a lot of players, umpires and directors."

Scott describes one of his greatest softball thrills developed while playing for the 1990 Anderson builders "C" team. "We had a great yr. We won several tourney's during the year. We won the New England's, came in 2nd in the States. But, Labor Day weekend in Rochester, NY we captured the Northeastern Divisional Championship tournament. I was selected to the All tournament team and also picked as the best defensive player of the tournament. Winning this Northeastern Divisional was my 1st of three. That year we recorded a 92-15 record. We were 7-0 and only allowed 35 runs in Northeastern Divisional Championship."

One of many individual achievements came during the "B" NIT Tournament in Hopkinton, MA. Scott hit 3 home runs in one game. "The exciting part about hitting 3 HR's in one game is that I am known as a singles hitter and not a HR hitter." Scott has won approximately 12 MVP awards in addition to gold glove and best defensive player awards.
