Bob details one of the most amusing events in his career while participating in the USSSA program:

“The most amusing event in my career happened at Fort Devens at a Men’s ‘D’ NIT. On one of the Willard Fields, it appears that there are two foul line (poles). One foul pole is on the line in right field, the other foul pole is in right center field. I am home plate umpire who took ball, I’m yelling ‘foul ball’ until I realize that ball is fair by 30 feet. Just then ball bounces over fence into dead ball area. John Hart (UIC for tournament) comes over to me and says: “Now what do we have?” I calmly say in response: “we have a dead ball ground rule double and put the batter/runner on second and pretend I never yelled “foul ball”. Same game I end the championship game with a called 3rd strike.”
