Patricia Masterson

Special - Presented by Mary Lyons

Pat has played softball for 45 years, 23 of which have been with USSSA. As a player, she has played 2nd base, 3rd base, shortstop, left field and pitcher. She has played on several teams which include Coast to Coast, Tasha’s, Walpole Sports, Cheryl Ann’s, Liberty Lounge and Spartan’s. She has competed in tournaments in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York and Maryland. She has also served as President of the Abington Women’s Softball League.

Since Pat was 10 years old, she played softball every summer. She still gets the same thrill when she pulls out her glove and ball after a long winter. To Pat, soft-ball is a game of camaraderie and one that allows a player to participate long after college. It has sustained her through life’s losses, introduced her to dedicated and persevering people, and kept her motivated to stay physically conditioned.

Some of Pat’s achievements include:

  • 1991 Northwood Tournament MVP Norwood, MA
  • 1991 Coast to Coast Team MVP Abington, MA
  • 1992 South Shore Tournament of Champions Cy Young Hingham, MA
  • 1994 Medway Tournament MVP Medway, MA
  • 1994 Coast to Coast Team MVP Abington, MA
  • 1995 NY Northeast 'C' Divisional MVP Syracuse, NY
  • 2003 Patty Malloy Tournament MVP Quincy, MA
  • 2004 Patty Malloy Tournament MVP

Pat’s most exciting time was receiving the MVP award at the Patty Malloy tournament on her 51st birthday and then following it up with winning the same award the day after her 52nd birthday.  “It was a thrill to be among my dearest softball friends for the award and to feel VERY young again.”

Pat’s greatest thrill while playing USSSA softball was when she played in the Northeast Divisional in Syracuse, NY going from the losers bracket all the way to win the tournament.  “Being the underdog with the oldest bats, oldest shirts but having the most fire and teams from all over cheering us on it was a thrill of a lifetime. Not to mention the excitement and honor of winning the MVP of the tournament.”  -Pat
