Moe Madzunovic

Female Player - Presented by Kathy Newman

Moe’s involvement in USSA has spanned through 25 years or more. After many back yard pick up games of whiffle ball, baseball, and softball she joined the area youth softball teams. Moe continued to play through high school and made her way to the women’s softball leagues. Throughout the 1980`s Moe played on teams such as the American Legion, Women’s Auxiliary, Copies Unlimited, and Ceasers II, preparing her for the next level of USSSA softball.

It was playing on the teams of the 1990`s such as the Watering Hole, Hot Shots, Taylor/Joe Lynch that Moe became known in the softball world as “00Moe”. During these years she was part of teams that added two consecutive winning National titles to its many collections of wins. The Women’s Northeast Divisional C in 1992, and the Northeast Divisional B in 1993.

For the past 20 years, it was “00Moe” that would take to the position of first base. Possessing the skills of agility and strength she would catch just about anything thrown at her, and if not we could find her using her body to make the play happen! Moe became known by players and coaches alike as one of the best women’s softball players in USSSA.

Moe’s lifetime batting average, as of today stands at .515. However, in at least 5 tournaments during the 1980-1990 seasons, Moe batted .600 or better, two of those tournaments over .650 plus.

Moe’s love and passion for the game of softball continues today as she is a member of at least three Women’s teams and two, sometimes three, Coed teams.

If work and the other commitments of life were not in the way we would probably find Moe on the ball field 7 days a week.
Moe’s commitment to Women’s softball goes beyond her playing, she has also has been a coach/player for many of those winning years. Moe’s winning attitude has always been present on and off the field and is the first to recognize the contributions of her fellow teammates. Many umpires would agree that if an infraction of the rules occurred during the game Moe would be the first to bring it to their attention. This was not done to create conflict on the ball field, but rather to promote the sanctity of the game.

Moe’s true love of the game is the major driving force behind any actions or behaviors that occur on the field, and she demands respect from all those who enter into the game of softball for each other and for the game itself.

When combining the roles of player/coach she was always involved in the promotion of Women’s softball, often times providing resources to play from her own pocket.

It can be very difficult to juggle between being a player and needing to complete a lineup for the same game. Moe has demonstrated success in both areas. She continues to be recognized by fellow ball players for her abilities and determination, but mostly, for her love of the game and the fact that she continues to give 110 percent of herself!
