Linda Rockwell

Female Player

Linda Rockwell has played USSSA softball for more than20 years. She has played on Superchicks from 1982to 2002and then Taylor Rental/Gil’s Auto from 2003 to 2005.Linda was a leader on the Superchicks team that excelled for many years throughout New England. It has been stated that nobody had greater range at second base and nobody had a better arm. She was gritty, tough and the consummate teammate. While she loved to win, her teammates all loved playing with her. Everyone has a “Rockwell” story. Over the years, the Superchicks won a ton of local and state tournaments, while hosting their own Manchester tournament. Linda was a leader on those teams as well as on the later version of the Superchicks that placed second in the Maryland Regionals in 1999 and won the NY Regionals in 2000.

Linda's list of individual awards:

  • 1990 Duluth Nationals All-Tournament Team
  • 1992 Ocktoberfest Manchester Tournament MVP
  • 1994 Maryland Regionals Tournament MVP
  • 1995 Brunswick Regionals All-Tournament Team
  • 1999 Maryland Regionals All-Tournament Team
  • 2000 Rochester NY Regionals All-Tournament Team

Linda’s most exciting time in USSSA was in 1990 when Superchicks qualified for their first National Tournament in Duluth. Their late coach and Hall of Fame inductee Frank Italia refused to fly, so Dick Dooley another Hall of Fame inductee had to coach them.

Linda’s most memorable moments were the Regionals win in NY as well as the second place regional finish in Maryland. Superchicks many wins in the Manchester tournament, which later became the Frank Italia Memorial Tournament, always provided a thrill because they were able to play in front of friends and family.

While known for her defensive talent at second base, Linda was a mainstay at bat. She often led the Superchicks in runs scored and had a knack for driving in runs with her inside-out swing. She also played for years with the Superchicks in the Manchester Womens League where she was always a perennial All Star selection.

“The Superchicks were a family with the same core of players for almost 20 years. Softball and USSSA opened the door for wonderful friendships, many of which I still enjoy today.”
