John Guenette

Coach - Presented by Tom Henrickson

John “Gunner” Guenette has been involved with USSSA softball programs for 27 years. John has participated on four teams throughout his softball career as a player/coach/manager. He has been a part of the VEM softball program for the last 12 years.
During the time John has been with VEM, the team won many state, regional and NIT tournaments, including winning the Labor Day tournament in Maryland four years ago. John states that VEM was rated #1 in country 5 times during the last 12 years. Their highest final ranking was #7 in the country six years ago.

John lists his biggest thrill while participating in a USSSA program is being part of the longevity of the VEM team. Having the team being together for a long time no doubt contributed to the many tournaments they have won over the years. The team has played in National, State, World tournaments and the World Series just about every year.

John has received 2 Coach of the Tournament trophies, approximately 10-15 MVP trophies and 5 Golden Glove awards during his softball career. His career batting average is approximately .600 and as a Manager he boasts a overall winning percentage of about 70%.

John describes one of the most exciting softball events occurred about two years ago when they put together a team with the “old” players (mostly 40+ year olds) to play in a ‘C’ NIT in Hopkinton. They were expecting to lose two straight games and then have a cookout. Instead they won the entire tournament, which certainly surprised a lot of teams.

Although there were many highlights during John’s softball career, he notes that winning so many tournaments and the chemistry of the VEM players as one of the top highlights.

“I have been blessed to play with not only so many talented players, but also with some wonderful people.”  -John Guenette (Gunner)
