BK'S/Casey Shell

2010 New England USSSA Hall of Fame Team of Distinction

BK’s has 4 Hall of Fame inductees. Players inducted are JoAnne Dooley DiFillipo, Alisa Fila and Lynda Spinazola, Manager Inductee is Dick Dooley.

BK’s sponsor was Sissy Kelly of Revere. In 1985 BK’s was then sponsored by Casey’s Shell of Lynn (Sponsor was a gas station). Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s Casey Shell was one of the most powerful & dominating forces in Women’s Softball in New England. On a local level Casey Shell played tournaments any-where they could, from Spencer to Leominster, Mansfield, Clinton, Peabody and Quincy. Or they went out of state to Nashua & Manchester NH and fondly played in Rochester, N.Y. in 1990, where they unexpectedly went undefeated and took first place at a National Tournament called the Eastern “B” National Championships. Clearly the underdog & fan favorite.

On a National level they traveled to CT, NY, NC, MD, and South Carolina just to participate at the highest level available to them.

BK’s /Casey Shell consisted of all local women , clearly representing everything special about the sport, good sportsmanship, good rapport with opposing players , umpires & directors. The core of this team started in the late 80’s and was still playing until the team retired in 2003.

After participating in the Women’s Program for 19 yrs, BK’s was known as one of the prolific teams playing Women’s Softball in New England.
It was no surprise that Manager Dick Dooley was inducted into the New England Hall of Fame. With Three Hall of Famers from BK’s, they collectively won 16 MVP Awards & 15 All Tournament Team Awards, not to mention seven more players receiving at least one or more MVP Awards. Local Championships would consist of twenty-five 1st place, six 2nd place & four 3rd place awards. In 2000, they placed 3rd at the NE Regional Championship in Long Island and placed 5th out of twenty-seven at Disney World Nationals in 2003.

Now, you have to understand these are the only statistics we know of, because this team were not fans of keeping statistics, they didn’t feel it was the most important thing to do. What was important to them was how they played as a team, how they treated each other, and how much they cared for each other, and ultimately, they truly regarded themselves as a family of friends.

Some of the things that softball allows you are the gifts of camaraderie, respect and appreciation of people you otherwise wouldn’t share and this team truly took first place in finding the true meaning of friendship.

In closing, there is no greater meaning of family through softball than a team like BK’s and the accomplishments are all truly deserved as a team, they played as a team and almost all retired as a team.

Congratulations to the 2010 Team of Distinction: BK’s/ Casey Shell!!
