George Legierse

Manager - Presented by Jim Consiglio

George has been playing USSSA softball for 18 years. Some of the teams that George has played on include Midas Touch Jewelers (Fairfield, CT); Barchella's Fel-las (Bedford, NY) and Checking/Worth (New Haven, CT). His approximate lifetime batting aver-age is .700!

George summarizes that the most amusing event in his softball career happened during the first tournament he ever played: “I was asked to play with Midas Touch up in Agawam, MA. This was my first USSSA tournament with a quality travel team so I was a little nervous. I saw this as an opportunity to play travel softball and make a name for myself. So it was my first at bat and I was lucky enough to be facing Randy Noe which I had no idea who he was. After his first pitch, I said to myself ... “this can't be legal”, but the umpire said “Strike”, then he pitched a ball which made me jump out of the box. Now I have a 2-2 count. Now comes a 70MPH heater as I was looking down and re-setting myself. I happen to see the ball out of the corner of my eye which triggered me to swing ... Well ..... I missed! Have a seat! As I was walking back to the dugout all I said to myself is “I'm never playing U.S.S.S.A anymore” Obviously that wasn't true as Midas hung in there with me. Actually, I did homer my last at bat and continued on for another 18 years …Once I figured out the rules.”

George recalls one of his greatest softball thrills was “winning the northeast regional in 1995 with Barchella's Fellas, a team that nobody gave a chance to win, in only my second year playing USSSA softball. A close second would be losing in the finals of the 2011 northeast shootout major conference event. We lost in the “if” game to 454/Worth from North Carolina. It was a great weekend as a team.”

“Softball isn't just a game; it's a part of life! The USSSA is the most organized and most competitive sanction in softball. So for me, it is the most enjoyable. Playing against the best teams in the best tournaments is exactly what I’m looking for. These events bring out the best in my competitive nature.” George
