Carl also participates off the field by helping with fund raising for the NE USSSA Hall of Fame and has had involvement with the Special Olympics for 3 years.

When asked to list the most exciting or amusing event in his career while participating in the USSSA program, Carl lists the following:
1) Special Olympics for 3 years.
2) Being involved in all the State-Regional-NIT’s and especially doing two World Series tournaments. The Men’s D and Men’s E.
3) According to Bob Lapinsky I have had at least 3 farewell tours too many.

In Carl’s closing remarks he states:
“To me, Special Olympics and USSSA’s involvement is great. The association needs to be more involved with these types of events. The feeling that you get as you do those games is wonderful. I plan, even after my retirement, to be associated on and off the field with Special Olympics. Every new umpire should be involved to see what true sportsmanship and the game of softball is all about.” -Carl
